Bali.... aaah Bali...

So I've been meaning to update my blog for some time now... but life seems to keep getting in the way... as usual. I've been working as a nanny 4 days a week, with some photography work in between... but not enough. It's time to buckle down and really pursue this "career choice" of mine. And since one of the families I work for is moving to Philidelphia, I'll have that chance soon:)
Anywho... since the last time I updated, I took a trip to Bali... and I fell in love with it. It was the most incredible place I've ever been. The people were so wonderful and sweet and loving, the food was absolutely mind blowing, and the place itself was just magical. No other way to describe it. I went with my best friend of 13 years, Louisa. She was the best travel companion a girl could ask for. So laid back and easy going, and down for anything. We did everything from a midnight to sunrise volcano climb of Gunung Agung, to visiting monkey inhabited temples in Ubud and Ulu Watu, to getting a private tour from a local of a fish market in Jimbaran, and a LOT more. Too many stories to put into writing... So here are some photos :)

INTERNSHIP! --> part 2 (April)

Once again, I REALLY need to invest in a scanner, and apologize for the crappy photos. BUT, you get the idea.
For this issue I shot (from top to bottom) buzzed (featuring Jacquie Greaux), Take out (rhubarb), Now Fashion (nude), Neighborhood (The sunset), and the editor for the editor's letter.
I'm still shooting for the magazine (as a freelance photographer - yay!), and loving it. I just finished a bunch of sections for the June issue... to be posted later! :)

Home made ring flash...

What do you get when you combine 2 plastic bowls, aluminum foil, gaffer tape, a pipe, some glue, and a crappy economy? A home made ring flash, of course! I made one today, and I LOVE it! Here are some of the first photos I took with it: (my nephew Cayden, my sis Thera, and me).

I bought the two bowls for about $2 each, the pipe for $4, the glue for $5, and already had the aluminum foil and gaffer tape (and the flash, of course). SO, instead of spending $200 on a ring flash from Calumet, I spent $11 and some change and had fun making it! I found the instructions online, and modified a couple of things here and there... but here's a link if you want to know how to make one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jedrek/239141592/
And here was my end result... kinda ghetto fab, but it works!

Fun, fun!

INTERNSHIP! --> part 1 (March)

So From December through March, I was interning at a magazine in San Francisco called 7x7. It covers everything in the city, from new restaurant openings, to hot events, new designers, fashion and trends, culture, etc. I first saw an issue of the magazine while I was still at Brooks, and at that moment, I knew I wanted to be involved. I got very lucky, because when I went to show the photo editor my portfolio, she asked if I would be interested in an internship. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity! So I spent the last few months at the magazine, both shooting some sections and doing office work. I loved it, and I'm bummed it's over, but it was an awesome experience!
Here is the March issue with some of my work in it... On the fashion trend page, I shot all but the runway shot.
When I get a hold of the other issues (April & May), I'll post 'em :)

OH, and I apologize for the crappy images of these pages.... I don't have a scanner.... ehhh....

Sunset... in the Sunset.

Crappy weather can get me down... sometimes I like rain, like when I can stay inside all day and watch movies. But most of the time I hate it. Ehh. Today was rainy and gloomy, but on my way home from work, I saw this incredible break in the clouds over a tiny land mass in the distance. I wanted to be there. But since I couldn't, I took a picture of it instead.

Lil Skater Boy

So my nephew Cayden is really into skateboarding right now... and it's the cutest thing I've ever seen. So the first time I took him to the skate park, I had to document it. And thanks to Fabe, I added some cool new filters!

I love my little skater!

Ch-ch-changes...

So I just moved back to San Francisco... well, about 4 months ago. But I'm still adjusting. Not to life in SF, I love it here, I was meant to end up here. I'm just adjusting to the life of a non student and a "working photographer". I put this in quotation marks because I'm basically unemployed at the moment. I just got an internship at a SF based magazine called 7x7, and in my 2 days there, I can tell I'm going to love it. I'll be able to shoot some stuff, and also learn the ins and outs of a magazine's photo department. The only thing is, it's only 1-2 days a week, and I'm getting paid less than minimum wage. But, I'm still so excited for the opportunity. And I've got to count my blessings - I'm lucky to have a home (in the Sunset) and be close to my family again. Work and money will come in time... right?

So here's my new neighborhood... Brya, Thera, and Cayden came out for a day and we discovered that rolling down a grassy hill is the most amazing thing. Try it. Trust me.

The beach is about 10-15 blocks away from my house, and GG Park is about the same distance. I feel so lucky! You can also see the GG Bridge from my backyard (yes, a backyard!). And, to top it all off, there's an awesome little park right across the street. And who said the Sunset is foggy? It's been nothing but sun since I moved here.
